And So It Began…Kinda Sorta

Will fall ever arrive this year?? We are almost at the end of our second summer of enjoying the porch that I had always dreamed about. Of course these two summers would happen to be the hottest we have had since I can remember, and I did grow up here in the south. Hopefully with fall on the horizon and ACC football on the way, the porch will be a welcome relief for everyone. It has been terrific to be able to actually sit outside during this unbearably hot summer and not be burned up by the sun and/or taken away by no-see-ums. And if you don’t know what a no-see-um is…count your blessings, the value of a screened porch during a southern summer...priceless !

So welcome to my very first blog post. I am so glad you have joined me. I decided to blog about the building of our porch because so many of my friends and neighbors wanted to know exactly how we did it. Did we hire a contractor? How did we find the plan we wanted for the porch? How did I decide on the finishings we used, where did I find the furnishings?? And because I love our porch and think everyone should have one, I am happy to share all the dirt and details about getting it built. And by keeping an electronic record of the build and the many DIY and other homekeeping ideas, one day my children will benefit from all the  many  ideas to use in their own homes.

Between magazines, Pinterest, and just living on porches for most of my life,  I pretty much knew what type and style of porch I wanted. The next step was getting it done!

What are some of your favorite styles of porches? Are you getting ready to build your own porch? I would love to hear from you and what your interests lean towards. Thanks so much for visiting.

Warm Regards

Leigh

WOW!! What a beautiful porch! I love the doors. How long did it take to build.? I’ve always wanted a porch, now it’s on my bucket list! I look forward to following your blog and hearing details about your journey building a real southern porch! I really like the bird fabric too.

Thanks Margaret. It took close to six months to get it built. We did start in the late fall which was not a great time to begin a construction project. We do love it and it was worth every twist and turn. Thanks so much for stopping by and please come back again.

I can’t wait to read more posts! We have a tiny porch but we’re adding a deck and we have a big patio. There’s always something sort of romantic about a big porch though. Not in the sense of mushy, lovey-dovey romance, but in that sort of “love affair with the south” kind of romance. I’m always jealous! I think this is a good start and I’m looking forward to more from you!

Thank you for that warm response. There is nothing better than a porch to make everything seem a little better. Thanks again for stopping by.
