A Christmas Table for the Little Ones

When I was a child there was always a Christmas table for the little ones. It was usually in the entrance hall, which was right beside the dining room. My great Aunt Maudie always sat with us at the table while the rest of the adults were together in the other room. It was always so much fun to have a table all to ourselves. It made us feel like little adults. Now that I have grandchildren it has been fun coming up with fun table ideas to share with them.

Frosty The Snowman…And A Fawn

This year I decided to go with a snowman theme for the table. Snowmen are fun and jolly, and I just love snow, so this was a perfect match šŸ™‚ I was in Wal-Mart when I found the perfect tablecloth and dishes. The tablecloth is a pretty blue and can be used long after the holidays. They had some very sweet salad plates with fawns and snowmen which work perfectly with the large white dinner plates.

I found mugs that matched the tablecloth and thought those would be perfect for little hands since the handles are nice and big.

The Little Extras

I saw these little mini stockings where they had the wrapping paper and thought they would be perfect to hold the fork and spoon.

I found the burlap Deer Antler napkin rings at Pier One and knew the children would love them.

The salt and pepper shakers I found at Target fit right into the snowman theme.

Jadeite and Old Trucks

I was able to bring two of my absolute favorite things together to create the centerpiece. I have been collecting vintage jadeite for quite a while now. My favorite piece was aĀ  great bowl that I used for everything, until it crashed to the floor and that was the end of that. I have been looking for its replacement for two years now, but I digress. I have also been collecting Hallmark’s “Old Truck Series” ornaments for many years now. And since I have a thing for old trucks, bringing these two collections together was just a natural pairing.

I used a jadeite cake stand andĀ  blanket snow to line the pedestal. Then I placed one of the trucks on the snow and added a few standing Christmas trees for effect. Since red cars and trucks with trees on top, or in the bed, are very popular this year it makes for a nice centerpiece.

I am now ready to welcome my grand girls with a fun and happy table for Christmas dinner! I hope your Christmas is a laughter filled day of joy.

I keep telling myself, No More Dishes, but your adorable snowman plates are so tempting. I knew I should go to Walmart a couple weeks ago, but my car seems to use automatic pilot to Home Goods. The plates have me remembering Christmas patterns of my childhood, thank you. I think kiddie’s tables are wonderful. My adult children still volunteer to sit at a second table if the size of our gathering necessitates one. They are convinced that the children’s table is the best seat in the house. Happy holidays.
